On Thursday, 19 May 2016 the Inanda Tactical Response Team and KwaMashu detectives conducted an intelligence driven operation following their hunt for a man who was wanted for murder cases at the KwaMashu Men’s hostel. The 30-year-old man was tracked and arrested at the hostel during the multidisciplinary operation.
During his arrest he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off and 15 rounds of ammunition. He was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and he will appear at Ntuzuma Magistrates Court soon. He is also linked to a murder case that occurred on 27 April 2016. Nobuhle Msomi (25) was found dead at the hostel with gunshot wounds near Isivumelwano Road. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any crimes.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa welcomed the arrested and praised police officers for their persistence in bringing the perpetrators of crime to book. “This breakthrough is crucial to solving cases of serious crime that occurs at the hostel. We hope that the arrest of this criminal will assist us in solving other cases that we are investigating and contribute to peace for residents leaving within the hostel complex,” he said.
